"Maria dos Cachorros" inaugurated a series of soundtracks created by Pedro for Brazilian director Vinícius de Hollanda. The short-film was made in collaboration with the NGO "Cão Sem Dono" ("Dog Without Owner"), which is dedicated to helping stray dogs find homes. It tells the story of a woman whose pursuit of love leads her into homelessness, where she ultimately finds solace in her bond with street dogs. The film serves as a tribute to women's resilience and the special connection humans share with their animal companions.
The music maintains the minimalist style of Pedro’s earlier soundtrack, Under Streetlight, while seamlessly weaving in Brazilian folklore melodies, enriching the score with a distinct cultural layer. The opening track, for instance, embraces the Modinha, a traditional Brazilian song form with roots in 18th and 19th-century Portuguese heritage. The main melody deliberately mirrors the tune Se essa rua fosse minha (“If This Street Were Mine”), evoking the protagonist's sense of homelessness and deepening the emotional resonance of her journey.
