Fronteiras marks Pedro's second collaboration with director Vinícius de Hollanda, set in Portugal and delving into the life and memories of an Indian immigrant. The film follows a unique narrative structure, where the story unfolds as a series of memories, thoughts, and reveries, all from the perspective of the protagonist as an elderly man. For Pedro, this project was a significant turning point, as it marked his first departure from a purely piano-based score. Instead, he embraced a larger ensemble and experimented with using sampled non-musical objects. Notably, he incorporated the sounds of ship bells and seashells to enrich scenes set along the Portuguese coastline, with the most distinctive element being the ethereal sound of a bowed Nautilus shell, adding an elegant depth to the atmosphere.
